{"id":74,"date":"2018-06-01T13:13:35","date_gmt":"2018-06-01T04:13:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.istdjapan.org\/en\/?post_type=product&#038;p=74"},"modified":"2019-06-16T18:39:58","modified_gmt":"2019-06-16T09:39:58","slug":"japanese-comfort-women-as-a-feminist-theme","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/shop.istdjapan.org\/en\/product\/japanese-comfort-women-as-a-feminist-theme\/","title":{"rendered":"[Electric data]Japanese \u2018Comfort Women\u2019 as a Feminist Theme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This paper examines the discursive space of the \u2018comfort women\u2019 issue, focusing on Japanese \u2018comfort women.\u2019 Since they are members of the oppressor nation and typically considered to be<br \/>\nformer prostitutes, Japanese \u2018comfort women\u2019 survivors had not often been regarded as victims until recently, even by the redress movement.<\/p>\n<p>However, analyzing and elucidating their position from the perspective of them being fundamentally exploited by the nation is the key to understanding the \u2018comfort women\u2019 issue.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this paper is to explore how those women came to be shaped into what they are today by firstly providing facts about the \u2018comfort women\u2019 system, as well as their social standing in<br \/>\nJapan when labeled as \u2018comfort women\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>It will then provide testimonial texts from Japanese \u2018comfort women\u2019 survivors, contrasting the representation of them with the survivors\u2019 own voices.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, this paper will survey the discursive space from the standpoint of Japanese \u2018comfort women,\u2019 looking back at feminist discussions related to nationalism.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the perception of discrimination towards Japanese \u2018comfort women\u2019 through depiction as prostitutes is presented as one aspect of the foundation for structuring the system of exploitation.
