{"id":336,"date":"2022-02-12T18:04:43","date_gmt":"2022-02-12T09:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shop.istdjapan.org\/en\/?post_type=product&#038;p=336"},"modified":"2022-02-12T18:12:09","modified_gmt":"2022-02-12T09:12:09","slug":"electric-data-03_p025-housing-first-in-tokyo-rethinking-the-complicities-between-housing-first-and-neoliberalism","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/shop.istdjapan.org\/en\/product\/electric-data-03_p025-housing-first-in-tokyo-rethinking-the-complicities-between-housing-first-and-neoliberalism\/","title":{"rendered":"[Electric data] 03_P025 Housing First in Tokyo: Rethinking the Complicities between Housing First and Neoliberalism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Housing First is a support project aiming to provide immediate residence to chronically homeless people in developed countries around the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Housing First follows the principles of unconditionality, which do not impose any requirements on homeless people, and is often considered an extraordinarily innovative initiative compared to past policies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, Housing First has been criticized for its complicity with neoliberalism.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This study aimed to reconsider this complicity by critically focusing on three dimensions of neoliberalism: ideologies, governmentalities, and policies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our reexamination of the Housing First government initiative in Tokyo indicates that the concepts of homeless- zero, self-responsibility, and cost reduction have indeed demonstrated complicity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, this study explores an alternative method of supporting homeless people based on the innovative logic of the Housing First initiative that avoids complicities and identifies Housing First as a social movement for the homeless in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This study reveals circulation, dialog, and universalization as essential for the radical Housing First social movement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"author\">Author\uff1aTeruhiro Yamakita<\/h2>\n<p>Terms and conditions of use: This article may be used for research, teaching, and private study purposes.
